Wine Sector

Kvemo Kartli is a distinctive wine region, known for its strong traditions and microzones with Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status, which give local wines a unique identity. Despite this potential and growing market interest, the sector has yet to fully capitalise on its opportunities.

Many wineries in the region operate independently and in isolation from one another. Quality management and business development practices are inconsistent, and the lack of a unified regional brand and coordinated market positioning limits access to higher-value segments. As a result, many producers continue to rely on low-margin sales, which constrains income growth and job creation.

Project activities are implemented in four municipalities of Kvemo Kartli: Marneuli, Bolnisi, Tetritskaro, and Gardabani.

The project aims to support the transformation of Kvemo Kartli’s wine sector into a more quality-driven, better organised, and competitive system – one that generates higher incomes and employment opportunities in the region.

To achieve this, the project:

  • Strengthens professional skills and local support services. In partnership with the Agro Center, a sustainable consultancy model is being established to provide continuous technical and business advisory support to grape growers and winemakers;
  • Enhances regional coordination. Producers work more collaboratively on market positioning and the definition of shared priorities;
  • Improves access to markets. Producers receive diagnostic and branding support, while new sales channels are developed to strengthen their market presence.

In the long term, this approach contributes to a stronger regional identity, improved quality, and increased income and employment in Kvemo Kartli.
