Tea Sector

Tea production has long held an important place in Georgia and remains a sector with strong potential for local economic development. While the industry is gradually revitalising and interest in high-quality Georgian tea is growing, its full potential has yet to be realised.

Many small and medium producers struggle to ensure consistent quality and build strong, recognisable brands. Market linkages remain fragmented, aggregation of production is weak, and coordination among sector actors is limited. As a result, the sector is not generating the scale of economic impact it could achieve.

Project activities are implemented in Guria (Lanchkhuti, Chokhatauri, Ozurgeti), Imereti (Tkibuli), and Samegrelo (Martvili, Tsalenjikha).

The project aims to strengthen the tea sector so that small and medium enterprises can access higher-value markets with quality products, while the sector evolves into a coordinated and market-oriented system.

To achieve this, the project:

  • Strengthens enterprises by supporting improvements in quality, adoption of standards, and increased investment readiness;
  • Develops sector associations and cooperation platforms, enabling producers to act collectively, pool resources, and engage the market more effectively;
  • Builds stronger linkages with national institutions, ensuring that programmes and investment decisions better reflect the real needs of the sector;
  • Improves market connections, fostering more stable and predictable relationships with buyers.

Through this systemic approach, the tea sector increases its competitiveness, creates new jobs, and contributes to stronger local economies.
